PYLONS: The electronic magazine by CIGRE Greece
The Greek National Committee (GNC) of CIGRE – CIGRE Greece – publishes the online electronic bilingual (in Greek or English language) magazine entitled “Pylons” hosting invited articles on contemporary aspects of Power Systems, interviews, newsletter as well as history flashback of the GNC. July 2026 will mark the 5th anniversary of the magazine published twice a year.
Scope and content
This magazine includes articles on cutting-edge topics of high interest to the Greek electrical sector including global technology trends. It is bi-lingual in the sense that it contains articles in Greek or English language. Each issue (approximately 90 pages) is usually dedicated to a specific topic hosting 5 to 7 selected articles by invited contributors. Apart from each issue’s main topic, ‘Pylons’ includes permanent columns dealing with historic retrospect (Flash back) referring to the history and special moments of the timeline of the GNC, the most recent technical information (Breaking News) and contemporary life events of the committee (CIGRE Greece News). Finally, the reader can find informative columns about relevant Conferences, Symposia, Colloquia, Books, Technical Exhibitions etc.

Highlights
An exclusive interview of CIGRE President Konstantin Papailiou, right after his election in August 2024, is included in Issue 6 (in Greek).
Interviews of 13 former Members of GNC Administrative Council of GNC appear in Issues 4 and 6 (in Greek).
An article entitled ‘The Digital Substation’ by Sakis Meliopoulos, Georgia Power Distinguished Professor, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, is published in Issue 8 (in English).
The Editorial Team
‘Pylons’ was launched in 2021 under the CIGRE Greece Administrative Council (AC) Chairmanship of Yannis Kampouris (2021-2024) and is continued by Nikos Hatziargyriou (2025-today) The editorial team consists of Yannis Kampouris (Coordinator), Costas Vournas (former Coordinator), George Georgantzis and Thanos Koronides (former GNC Chairmen), and Babis Pitas (GNC-AC Member) providing technical/digital support and reporting GNC’s life news. Former editorial team members, Markos Champakis (former CNC Chairman) and George Tsiropoulos (responsible for editing and publishing), have also contributed notably during the initial magazine’s period.
