Technical Program and Main Topics

CMDM 2025 featured a diverse technical program exploring key topics shaping the future of power systems. The main topics of the conference covered:

  • smart grids and digital substations;
  • condition monitoring and diagnosis for power equipment and high voltage lines;
  • condition monitoring in power plants;
  • failure phenomena – electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal causes;
  • degradation assessment and predictive maintenance;
  • advanced sensing and ai applications;
  • substation automation and automated metering;
  • asset management tools and integration of distributed renewable resources.

At the CMDM 2025 conference, a series of technical papers and tutorials were presented, illustrating current trends and strategic directions in the modernization and digitalization of power systems. The topics covered a broad spectrum, from advanced solutions for energy quality monitoring and secure interconnection of EMS and DMS systems, to modern technologies for monitoring overhead power lines, power transformers, and substation equipment. They also highlighted the use of drones and GIS platforms in maintenance activities, as well as modern methods for data analysis and asset management. Collectively, these contributions highlighted the professional community’s commitment to modern technologies, optimization of operational processes, and the enhancement of performance and safety in power systems.

Next Generation Network (NGN) – The Voice of Young Professionals

In organizing the conference, CIGRE Romania - Next Generation Network played an important role, actively supporting the event and overall succes.

“The energy transition cannot be achieved without the involvement of young people – they represent our future and, at the same time, our shared responsibility. The Next Generation Network in Romania is a remarkable example of active and successful engagement in this regard,” said Konstantin Papailiou, the president of CIGRE.

Strategic Partnerships and Industry Support

The partners of the CMDM 2025 conference were represented by prestigious organizations from the energy and technology sectors, renowned for their expertise in the design, the construction and maintenance of energy infrastructure, energy transmission and distribution, the production of advanced technological equipment for substations and power lines, the implementation of digital technologies and smart grids, the automation of systems and processes, smart energy metering, as well as energy asset management. All of these organizations contributed to the success of the conference through their expertise and active involvement. Their participation highlighted the strategic importance of close collaboration among network operators, equipment manufacturers, advanced technology providers, specialized service providers in strengthening the reliability, security and modernization of power systems.

Technical Visit – From Theory to Practice

The conference concluded in the 3rd day with a technical visit to Romania’s largest distribution substation – the 110/20 kV Bucharest North substation. The substation is located in the capital of Romania and serves over 73000 consumers, including central institutions, hospitals and government ministries.

Participants had the opportunity to visit the substation after its modernization, allowing them to observe both the state-of-the-art primary equipment and the fully digitalized control room, outfitted according to the most advanced technological standards.
