Editorial
President of CIGRE
As it is every month, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the April edition of ELECTRA.
There are several articles I would like to point out to you, the first being a futuristic view of motors and mobility entitled The Cambrian Explosion of Mobility X by Hiroshi Okamoto, Ph.D. (EVP and CTO, TEPCO Power Grid & Chair, CIGRE Japan) in which Dr Okamoto envisions the Industrial Revolution 5.0. For energy, an electric grid is needed to connect the charging and discharging infrastructure to “mobility X” car equivallent, and for information, a digital infrastructure such as high-speed wireless communications, fiber optics, and data centers is needed, which will be the blood vessels and nerves of Society 5.0.
Other articles of special note to be seen include:
GLOBAL CONNECTIONS: Condition criticality and Risk assessment by Darin Johnson, the President of BIS Consulting, an asset management specialty firm. These models paint a picture of asset-level risk and provide support for a wide range of the decisions asset managers are faced with. They can serve as the foundation of an asset management program.
TECHNOLOGY E2E: Analysis of Integrating Artificial Intelligence Models in the Operation of the Colombian Electric System by the CIGRE Study Committee C2 Team. The results of this group represent a small step towards the integration of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence in electrical systems. Although the findings from their studies did not reach definitive conclusions for immediate application in real-world operations, there is a significant potential envisioned for future development stages.
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVES: A Leader’s role in assessing and managing the performance of team members, by Dave Hawkins, Executive Consultant, Vanry Associates. An implication of this approach is that a high performing leader and team will review and agree to the full set of obligations they hold each other to as part of forming and maintaining the team.
One very important reminder is to check your CIGRE membership status. There is a page in ELECTRA’s Life of the Association section that will give you all the information you require.
We are only a few months away from this summer PARIS Session so one again I would ensure that you have your hotel reservations. Please remember that it is an Olympic year and the Paris 2024 Paralympics are the same week as CIGRE Session.
I look forward to seeing you this summer, and I hope you find this ELECTRA edition very good reading.
Cordially,
Michel Augonnet
