Women in Energy Japan: Fostering Connections and Empowerment
In March 2025, the 6th CIGRE Japan Women in Energy (WIE-JP) meeting was held in person, with 32 participants engaging in lively group discussions. Launched in April 2022, WIE-JP aims to build cross-company networks among women in the energy sector and contribute to the field’s long-term development.

This event was supported by the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), reflecting WIE-JP’s collaboration with various organizations. As female participation in CIGRE Japan remains limited, expanding networks has been a key focus. The mailing list now includes over 50 members who contribute monthly on a rotating basis.
Meeting topics are chosen via surveys, with strong interest in career development and work-life balance—areas especially relevant in fields where women remain underrepresented. Participants consistently express high satisfaction, noting the value of open dialogue across generations and organizations.

Personally, I find each meeting a source of insight and encouragement. Looking ahead, we plan a virtual meeting this fall and an in-person event with JNC, NGN, and IEEJ to explore energy transition and CIGRE initiatives. WIE-JP remains committed to supporting women and advancing the energy sector.
