CIGRE SYMPOSIUM

CIGRE International Symposium Heidelberg 2027: Call for Papers

One Grid – Technological Innovations for Integrated Power Systems

Hosted by the German National Committee

Symposium Theme

CIGRE’s 105-year experience of integrated grid complexity will be showcased with technical and practical applications for System Operators, Experts, and Manufacturers to engage actively in CIGRE’s Symposium in Heidelberg – Distribution and Transmission, working together, as One Grid.

Distribution and Transmission are blurred without boundary for today’s One Grid. Power flows are becoming more dynamic and less predictable, while system inertia, fault levels, and voltage control characteristics are changing across all voltage levels. This unprecedented transformation puts Distribution at the core of the Energy Transition, intertwining the challenges of Transmission, Supply, and the Grid Edge. Join us at the CIGRE international symposium on the Energy Transition in Heidelberg!

The Preferential Subjects below indicate the focus of the expected contributions (Study committees involved in brackets):

PS1: One Grid

  • Planning and Operation of Distribution Systems (C5, C6, D2)
  • Power Quality and Safety (C6)
  • Protection, Automation and Control for High Penetration of Distributed Energy Resources (B3, B5, C6, D2)
  • Customers, Regulation, Market Design and Risk Management (C5, C6)

PS2: Grid Equipment

  • Impact of Bidirectional Power Flow and Overload (A2, A3, B2, B3, B5, C6)
  • Substations as Hubs for Power and Information between Transmission and Distribution (A3, B3, B5, C5, C6, D2)
  • Evolutions of Asset Management, Monitoring and Environmental Requirements (A2, A3, B2, B3, B5, C6, D2)

PS3: System Management

  • Flexibility, System Stability, Coordinated Voltage and Congestion Management (A2, A3, B2, B3, B5, C6)
  • Interfaces, Data Models and Communication Network Architecture (B3, B5, C5, C6, D2)
  • Physical Resilience and Cybersecurity (A2, A3, B2, B3, B5, D2)

Papers publication

Papers will be available to download one month in advance of the symposium for registered participants as described in www.cigresymposium2027.de. One month after the symposium, papers can be purchased on eCIGRE. CIGRE Science & Engineering (CSE) journal will publish the best papers selected from the symposium. The Symposium Technical Committee will produce a summary report of the symposium for publication in ELECTRA.

Submission of synopses

Participants wishing to present and publish papers must submit synopses by following instructions on www.cigresymposium2027.de where the synopses and paper templates are also available. All synopses, papers, and presentations must be in English. Please note that at least one author should present the paper at the symposium.

Deadlines

  • Deadline for Synopses in ConfTool : 2 November 2026
  • Selection of synopses by SCs and information to authors: 30 November 2026
  • Deadline for full papers: 7 February 2027
  • Feedback to authors of full papers: 7 March 2027
  • Final papers to ConfTool: 29 March 2027

Information for registration will be available on the Symposium website.
