CIGRE Science & Engineering (CSE) - The technical magazine of choice
Now a digital paper
By Rob Stephen, Editor in Chief of CSE
CIGRE provides a premier digital magazine called CIGRE Science and Engineering (CSE), and authors are increasingly interested in publication in this Scopus registered magazine. This Scopus registered (E-ISSN 2426-1335) magazine provides the following benefits:
- Free publication – no financial obligation to authors;
- Free download – maximum exposure for authors’ work;
- Rigorous review – reviewers are selected from the most knowledgeable experts globally by the Study Committee chairpersons;
- Rapid publication – the time from submission to publication can be from 4-9 months depending on the revisions required and availability in the CSE edition;
- Open access to all interested parties. Free download to all (you do not have to be a CIGRE member).
I have received several queries as to the rating of CSE as well as whether the magazine is Scopus registered. The details are given below:
“CIGRE Science and Engineering, ISSN:24261335”. The journal is active and indexed in Scopus (link).
It was first registered in January 2020 which accounts for the current relatively low scores. The score for 2020 was 0.4 and for 2021 it is 0.6. The trend is promising as the quality of papers is excellent. The reviewers are chosen from experts globally by the Study Committee chairpersons. This results in excellent feedback for authors. The magazine is also open access and there is no charge for publication. This ensures maximum exposure to the author’s work.
Regarding conference papers, CSE undertakes to publish the best of papers from each conference. This is under the assumption that they are peer reviewed. They are still reviewed by the SC chair and a decision made whether to publish or not.
If they are not reviewed, they need to follow the CSE review process which is very rigorous and requires reviews from three experts (global) selected by the SC chair.
There is a concern relating to the conference papers not published in CSE which may not have impact factors for academia. In this case the authors need to decide whether to publish directly in CSE (by submitting directly to CSE for review) or to publish at the conference which will provide immediate feedback to the authors.
The next edition of CSE is due to the published at the end of February and boasts the best papers from the recent symposium in Slovenia as well as the best paper from the conference in South Africa. In addition, there are reviewed papers from academia, industry and utilities which provide critical information on equipment and systems.
I would urge readers to reference articles published in CSE as these references are globally accepted.
