Moscow, Russia
19 December 2019

Ministry of Energy of Russia and CIGRE Russia had the first meeting of the Women in Engineering discussion club.

The meeting was attended by Anastasia Bondarenko, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia; Olga Zuykova, Head of the Technical Supervision Center of Rosseti; Tatiana Mitrova, Director of the Skolkovo Energy Center; Victoria Vostrosablina, Chief Engineer of the Rosseti Moscow Region (MOESK); Alexandra Ryabykh, co-founder of the "Women in Nuclear" foundation; Olga Sinenko, Head of CIGRE Study Committee D2 "Information Systems and Telecommunications"; representatives of generating companies, manufacturers of electrical equipment, scientific organizations and universities. The meeting was moderated by Natalya Ozhegina, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of FGC UES, Supervisor of the Russian NGN activities of CIGRE.

In view of the global trend of increasing women’s role in all spheres of professional and managerial activities, considering the achievements of Russia in the field of non-discriminatory access to technical professions - which remains an unsolved task in many countries - the hot topics and opportunities for the development of mutual support within the sectoral women's community with the unifying role of the Ministry of Energy of Russia were identified.

The event was organized with support of the Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System (Rosseti Group). The main objectives of the discussion were to consolidate positions on the most topical issues of the women's industry agenda, taking into account the club members’ experience, similar communities’ activities, as well as the ongoing CIGRE projects and other associations.

Other topics of discussion included:

  • Need for practical information consolidation of the most pressing issues on the women's agenda in the industry raised at various venues, holding a general meeting of the club at least once a year;
  • Need to present a unified position of all the sectoral women's communities in Russia at the Women's Forum at the 48th Session of CIGRE in Paris in 2020, and to create an appropriate coordination working group;
  • Need to collect and share statistical data to identify positive and negative trends;
  • Creation of a separate generalizing information platform at the Russian CIGRE NC's website, where thematic information from Russian and international sources can be presented to public and where plans and results of the community activities will be reflected.
